Checked both hives and found strong nectar coming in, with capped honey and the supers starting to fill. We marked each queen to make upcoming inspections easier. We also had a special guest joining us for this week's inspection.

Checked both hives after leaving them undisturbed for a few weeks, and found new queens in Hive Elaine and Hive Shirley—each laying eggs with a fresh spread of brood. Both brood boxes are nearly full, so we added a super to start taking in honey as the harvest begins.

Completed a thorough inspection and located both queens, then added a second brood box to give the colony room to grow. The brood box is nearly built out, with plenty of brood coming on as the colony continues to expand.

Ran the first major inspection on May 3 and found one of the two queens. Both colonies are building quickly, and we’re keeping nectar on them to support early spring brood production.

Two brand new hives started from northern-raised Bucks County nucleus colonies. The transfer into the colonies came on a chilly day, with the ground still slightly wet from heavy rain the day before.
